One of my very favorite things about summertime is the fresh produce, specifically FRUIT! I cannot drive by a farm stand or a farmer’s market without stopping and buying tons of fabulous fresh fruit and vegetables. Storing some of it is an issue, and it can spoil before we eat it all. This is a particular issue with melons – they are so large and juicy that keeping them fresh is a challenge because they sit in their own juice. GoodCook.com sent me a ProFreshionals Cut Fruit Bowl to try out and it is the perfect thing to serve and store fresh cut fruit.
Whenever we buy a watermelon we get a large one, and storage is always an issue. The ProFreshionals Cut Fruit Bowl is big – 7 quarts – so it holds enough for a crowd. The bowl is big enough to use for serving and entertaining, and it keeps the fruit fresh longer by separating it from the juice. Snap on the lid and store it in the fridge – perfect for snacking or for taking along to an event.
I just bought a nice watermelon and I decided to make some Watermelon Granita since the weather has been hot, hot, hot. 3 easy ingredients and and we were enjoying a cold and refreshing frozen treat in a few hours. You can too!
Here is my recipe.
Watermelon Granita Recipe
A granita is an Italian semi-frozen dessert made from sugar and fruit or various flavorings.
Ingredients:
4 cups cubed, seedless or seeded watermelon
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice
Directions:
Add all ingredients to a blender and puree until smooth. Pour the mixture into a 9x9x2 metal baking pan, cover with foil, and freeze for one hour.
This is an important step to ensure the proper texture >> After an hour in the freezer, stir the mix and mash any frozen parts with the back of a fork. Cover again and freeze the mixture until hard, about 2 more hours. Using a fork, scrape the granita to form icy flakes and serve in a glass. You will need to scrape hard so get your aggression out. This recipe can be multiplied and can be made up to 3 days ahead if you plan on serving for a party. Just make sure that the granita container is not too deep. Cover tightly with foil and keep frozen until ready to serve.

When you hear the term “Living Gluten Free” you imagine a life without baked goods. At least that’s what I imagined when I was told I was gluten sensitive…a life of no more toast with jam, of no more sandwiches, and no lattes with a morning muffin. I got a little sad since bread and I go way back, and we even survived my short lived venture into carb free living (but that’s another story ☺). Despite my sensitivity, I was stubborn and often lived to regret my dalliances with baked goods. Ummmm Hello, I am Princess T and I’m Gluten Sensitive and stubborn. I kept thinking I’d be OK that I could over come this. I’d tell my body what to do. Boy was I wrong! Bloated tummy aches and troubles plus crankiness became my new bff’s due to my denial. When it was recommended to me that my son also try to live Gluten Free, I knew it was time to act. It was not just me it was now affecting my child so we had to make a change and make it now.
Thankfully I found Udi’s Gluten Free Products. Their comprehensive line of gluten free products has made our transition smooth. Now, I won’t say that I don’t stare longingly at the fresh baked roll at the steak house, but I can have a yummy Harvest Crunch muffin with my coffee in the mornings and feel fantastic afterwards! Twist on Tradition with Nestle El Mejor Nido and All You Magazine!
When the CQ Stacy told me that we had been chosen by Nestle to test drive their new recipes, Twist on Tradition I was super excited. Having grown up with both American and Latin American products from Nestle they are a brand that I trust, love and that I now give to my own family and recommend to my friends.
I was sent a wonderful basket from Nestle El Mejor Nido that included everything I needed to try traditional recipes with a twist, the December issue of All of You Magazine, and their Limited Edition Holiday Entertaining Guide. Now once I got the basket I got a little nervous because as I’ve shared before I’m not that exceptional in the kitchen. But my nervousness was quickly put to rest as these recipes are not only easy they are deliciosas!
I was super excited to try the Flan Impossible as it blended my two loves, chocolate Devils food cake and Flan! But I had never ever ever made flan on my own so I was really happy to know that using Nestle evaporated milk and condensed milk La Lechera I was going to be able to make a dessert I’d be happy and proud to serve to my family at future gatherings.
Flan Impossible was not only a huge hit for dessert I caught my husband and daughter having some for breakfast the next day!
The creaminess is due to the wonderful ingredients found in Nestle Evaporated and Condensed Milks.
Next up I made the kids a special treat that had Frozen Nestle Drumsticks and Abuelita brand hot chocolate mix. WOW the kids loved this as a nice treat and I loved knowing that they were having a treat made with the great ingredients found in these Nestle products. I even made my own hot chocolate with Abuelita, this has been a brand my mom has used since I can remember and we’ve always loved it but now so much more convenient in a powder mix and not just a hard tablet.
My own brats…ah er I mean prince and princess enjoying their Frozen Hot Chocolate.

I was recently sent a few boxes of Sara Lee Snack Cakes to review, plus a really cool Sara Lee lunch bag and water bottle. Sending sweets to a pregnant blogger is a sure-fire way to get noticed, and I could not wait to enjoy them. I do have to be careful, though, because I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes…so I made sure that I only took a few bites of each one for my afternoon snack. The King was pleased, though, because that meant more for HIM to eat! I was sent a box of the Devil’s Food Crème Cakes and these were moist and had a wonderful chocolate taste, with just the right amount of creme filling to make this a sinful treat! I was also sent a box of the Buttery Sunshine Cakes, and though they are not chocolate they ARE super moist and delicious. The King said that they would be “even more awesome” with some strawberries or fresh fruit, and he is correct…though they are perfect to eat all by themselves. I have to say that we are very impressed with the quality and the taste of both selections. I am sure that the other varieties are equally as good.

We wanted to decorate my daughter’s room without breaking the bank. She’s still very much in the pink and purple phase but I don’t want overload in those colors. She’s girly but not overly and a she is a huge animal lover. We decided that our best option was to use wall decals or wall stickers to add some pizzazz to her room quickly and easily with little fuss. This way we can re-arrange them as she wants to change the look without ruining the walls or the paint. I found Dezign With a Z while checking out our options for wall decals and wall stickers. They have so many decals to choose from! The kid’s wall decals section was amazing! But even more so, I found that decals are not just for kid’s rooms. I’m definitely considering adding a decal to my bedroom or the family room. We try to be minimalist (I can’t stand clutter) but that doesn’t necessarily mean we have to be boring in the decor. A decal is an easy an inexpensive way to change the look of the room without making my husband have a panic attack at the price or the amount of work involved.
My daughter is a big girl of 7 and has her own opinions, so I didn’t want to get anything she’ll outgrow tomorrow. She won’t admit it but she is still a little afraid of the dark. How happy was I to find the glow in the dark decals! Since her nickname is B, I like to use things that start with ‘B’ for her, and I found some cool and pretty butterfly decals that glow in the dark. They can be moved around, so I can see her using them in different places in her room for the next year or so.
Now by no means am I a handy person, and some will say I’m even a little on the clumsy side. I was excited to find that the instructions for the decals were very clear, and the kit also included the one tool I needed to get the job done! Super handy!! No asking to borrow my husbands tools and no need to play the damsel in distress to have him finish the job for me! The instructions say to make sure the wall is clean. I decided on the spot and cleaned that place on the wall. Next up was the intimidating part: the application. I was afraid that I’d somehow mess this up even though it sounded so simple. AND I didn’t! Up the the butterfly decals went one by one! I even removed and re-positioned a couple of them with NO issues at all! They are attractive in the daylight and they glow so nicely at night that the little girl in me wants them for herself lol. My daughter loves them and I love that they go with the decorations or the character she’s currently into (right now it’s Tinkerbell).
