Runaway to Albuquerque!  Hotel Cascada, An Urban Resort

When I lived in California I took road trips in California, never really
venturing outside the state.  Then we started coming to Phoenix, AZ and
I started to fall in love with the state, so much so that we moved here
3 years ago.  But now that we live here our road trips are usually aimed
West and we keep going back to California, ignoring the fact that we
have the whole rest of the US to the East of us.

I’ve read about Albuquerque, NM because I love hot air balloons, and on my
short list is to attend the International Balloon Festival that is held there
yearly.  In my daily internet surfing I stumbled upon the Hotel Cascada and
I was intrigued.  Here in Phoenix we have a lot of resorts but right now all
the pools and lazy rivers are closed for the winter.  The Hotel Cascada has an
indoor water park attached to the hotel!  It’s an Urban Resort, right in the
bustling area of Alburquerque!

From about Thanksgiving to New Years I avoid the stores, the malls … heck I
try to not even go to CVS.  The hustle and bustle gets to be a little too much for me.

I wanted to get out of town and explore my new neighbors.  What better place to
escape the winter blues then heading to a water-park?  Since my kids are part fish I knew they would enjoy it.

Why not?

At about a 6 hour drive from Phoenix (7 hours from Las Vegas, 7 .5 hours
from Salt Lake City, 6 hours from Denver, 3 hours from El Paso
and 45 min from Santa Fe), Albuquerque is not that far. We left at 6am and
we started our trek driving through some of the most picturesque land I had
ever seen. We stopped at the information center for the Petrified Forest,
we veered off our mapped course to drive a bit on Route 66, we stopped to
see Indian artifacts along Navajo Nation as well as stopping at the Continental Divide!

All in all we had a great road trip leading to Albuquerque!

Arriving to Albuquerque at about 3:30 pm we came to the Hotel Cascada. From
the outside you can not imagine how large of a resort it truly is and what gems
you will find.  How about an interior koi fish pond?  An indoor pool where they
show kids films in addition to the indoor water-park?  The exterior court (brrrr)
has a few fire pits with comfy chairs to sit and sip hot chocolate from and also a little
green putting area.  We checked into our rooms, a King room with an adjoining
double room for our kids.  Great space, comfy beds, a working desk (can’t stay too
far from my deals so this was perfect) and a 42 in flat screen.  But we were not here
to sleep so on with our bathing suits and away we went!  The Hotel Cascada has two
sessions starting on Fridays for the park. It opens at 10 am and goes to 3 pm and then
again from 4pm to 9pm. It has a lazy river, two water slides, a toddler/small kids area,
a mini obstacle course area (my daughter called it mini-wipe out), a water basketball
playing court and a flow rider!

My family and I played, swam and boogie boarded well into the evening and then we
went up to our room and had some of the best pizza and wings from their room
service.  The next day up and early to have breakfast which was also just as delicious.
I had some of the yummiest eggs benedict I have had in a long time. Then back to the
water-park for some more fun!

I do want to tell you one thing. I’ve been to a lot of resorts and this one in particular
is not only clean and family oriented but they take safety very seriously. We had lots
of life guards on the floor at all times, which is totally reassuring. The staff that works
the flow rider was amazing, they helped the kids feel reassured at riding the waves since
they had never gone on one before.

I totally plan on going back in the near future to Albuquerque, to see more of the
Rio Grande and to catch the next Balloon Festival.  We came back happy, refreshed and
ready to go back, largely in part to the excellent accommodations and service.

Right now they have excellent promotions so please make sure to visit their page.

They have the Slip and Slide into the Holidays for $199 that includes use of
the water-park for two days, pizza dinner and breakfast for two!  If you like me need
a mini break from the hustle and bustle then make sure to put them on your list for
a great family getaway.  My kids asked me today when we can go back!
