Today Philadelphia City Council approved a 1.5% Soda Tax on sugary and diet beverages. The tax is supposed to bring an estimated $9o million in tax revenues to the city and will help with schooling and recreation centers. The tax may also help to curb some weight issues. 41% of children and 68% of adults are obese or overweight in Philadelphia. Lawmakers see the health benefit as an added bonus to the tax.
