Nutella Crescent Rolls – Valentine’s Day or Any Occasion

This post may contain affiliate links, including Amazon.  Please visit our Privacy Policy and Disclosures.

Nothing says I Love You quite like delicious and warm baked goods.  Make these for your Valentine, for yourself, for your co-workers, your neighbors — Just MAKE THEM, because they are SO GOOD!  Vary the sprinkles to customize for any and all occasions.

Valentine Nutella Crescent Rolls

INGREDIENTS
Pillsbury crescent rolls – 8 ct. canister
13 oz jar of Nutella
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons cold milk or cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Valentine sprinkles

DIRECTIONS
1.   Preheat oven to 375° F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set to the side.

2.   Keep refrigerated till ready to use the dough.  Separate the crescent rolls into triangles per the directions on the package.

3.   Generously spread 2 Tablespoons of Nutella onto each triangle and then roll each one up, beginning with the wide end of each triangle.

4.   Place on the parchment lined cookie sheet, at least 2 inches apart from each other.

5.   Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the crescents turn light golden brown in color.  Do NOT over bake.  Cool a minute or two on the tray before icing.

6.   While the crescents are baking, make the icing glaze. Put the powdered sugar in a mixing bowl.  To the powdered sugar, add the milk and vanilla.  Mix until a thick glaze forms.  You may need a tiny bit more milk to get the consistency to drizzle with.

7.   While the crescents are still a bit warm, drizzle the icing glaze generously over each crescent roll and then sprinkle with the Valentine sprinkles.

8.   ENJOY!!  Yield 8 Nutella crescent rolls.  Once cooled, store in covered plastic ware in the fridge up to 2 days.

Boozy Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Boozy Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Ingredients:
2 pints of large ripe strawberries (some for making and some for munching on while you work)
1 cup Ghiradellhi chocolate
1 cup Chardonnay
20 plastic pipette tubes for infusion
Red and pink chocolate candy melts

Directions:
Wash and dry your strawberries.  Pat dry and let them air dry awhile.  Water and chocolate don’t mix.
Place your strawberries on a baking pan lined with parchment paper.
Take your pipettes and add your wine of choice.  Insert one into each strawberry.
Let sit until all the wine has been absorbed into the strawberry, at least 20 minutes.
Begin to melt your chocolate:
Using a double boiler, fill the bottom pot 2/3 of the way with water and bring to a boil on medium heat.
Place the second pot onto of the first one.  You want the water to touch the bottom of the top pan.
Reduce heat to low.
Add your chocolate to the second boiler.
Stir to melt, making sure to not let it get too hot.  However, you want the chocolate to be good and warm.  Cold chocolate will streak and dry dull.  TO make it be pretty, make sure your chocolate is fully melted for a few minutes.
Dip each strawberry into the chocolate, covering 3/4 of the strawberry.
Place the strawberry back on the baking sheet and to allow to harden.
Begin to melt the the pink and red wafers.
Drizzle the various chocolate colors on your berries for a classy look.  I use a butter knife for the drizzling.
Enjoy!  Store these in the fridge for up to 2 days.

10 Unique (Some sorta naughty) Activities to do with Your Honey on Valentine’s Day

10 Unique (Some sorta naughty) Activities to do with Your Honey on Valentine’s Day

We all love getting gifts, but in all reality, your time is worth more to the person you love than the cost of even the most valuable gift. When you have been married as long as I have, cute little gifts are great, but not what you need. Let’s face it; we all need to spice things up every now and then! Here are 10 unique (Some sorta naughty ones!) activities to do with your significant other on Valentine’s Day!

#1 Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane

The restaurants are busy, the stores have millions of helpless lovers searching for the best gift, and the whole couple world has cupid on their head. Instead of joining in the chaos, take your spouse down memory lane. Visit an old park, your favorite place, or where you first met. Make it an adventure that no one else will be on.

#2 Go Skinny Dipping

Bring out your wild side. I mean you’re already together, so it’s not like your spouse will see anything forbidden. It might be cold, but the exhilaration of jumping naked into a pool of cold water with your love is sure to heat things up.

#3 Get Matching Tattoos or Piercings

Getting a tattoo or piercing certainly isn’t the norm on Valentine’s Day, but if you are both into getting a new tat or piercing, why not do it together? Pick something you both would like and make the leap.

#4 Go Sing Karaoke

Who knows, you both may be the next American Idol! Couples who sing together are couples who stay together. So, go out to your favorite Karaoke bar for a few drinks, and sing your hearts out. Of course, you could come up with a special song just for your spouse.

#5 Play Truth or Dare

Oh, come on. you know you want to know what the dare is! Just because you are coupled up doesn’t mean you don’t have secrets to tell or things you’ve never done. Have Valentine’s Truth or Dare, and see how fun and steamy your night can get.

#6 Play Your Their Favorite Video Game

Some of us have a significant other who is a hard-core gamer. Usually, it’s just one or the other that enjoy the games, so if you’re the one that isn’t too into it, surprise your SO with a game night complete with drinks, popcorn, and a little friendly competition.

#7 Be Goof Balls

They say laughter is the best medicine and that goes for having a healthy relationship as well. When you are constantly being a grown up, sometimes it’s just fun to let go and be goofballs. Here are a few ways to laugh it up:

  • Go shopping and have a cart race for everything on your list. Winner gets something from the loser.
  • Make blanket forts and tell stories.
  • See a comedy show or better yet, try an open mike night yourself!
  • Go to an arcade and play all the fun games.

#8 Become Tourists in Your Own City

Go around your city, taking pictures and acting like tourists. Pretend to be different people. Ask other people to take pictures of you, and ask them what the best places in town to do are. You may be surprised how much you can learn from other people about the city you live in.

#9 Make Memories in Your Car

Remember the days when you would go park in an exclusive part of town just to make-out? Reminisce on those adrenaline times of yore, and make some memories in your car. Figure out where “make-out hill” is in your town (probably good to know when your kids are older, too).  Bonus if you clean out all kid detritus first.  Nothing sexy about stale Cheerios stuck in your hair.

#10 Play Strip Bedroom Blackjack

This is a fun Strip Bedroom Blackjack game you can find online to spice up your life. The seductive deck lets you play games like poker, blackjack, go fish, or rummy in new and erotic ways. Just make sure if you have kids there is a babysitter!

diy-valentine-cherry-scented-no-cook-playdoh-couponistaqueen-com-directions

DIRECTIONS
1.   In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

2.  Add the pink food color, vegetable oil, cherry flavoring and cold water and mix until well incorporated. The cherry flavoring is red and gives the playdoh a nice light pink color. If you prefer the playdoh a darker pink (like we did!), use a touch or two of food color.

3.  Remove the playdoh from the mixing bowl and place on a flat, lightly floured working surface. Knead the playdoh for about 5-6 minutes until a soft and elastic dough forms and the color (if using dye), is evenly distributed. You will LOVE the cherry scent!!

4.  You can use cookie cutters to make Valentine shapes such as hearts and big lips, etc.  Sprinkle glitter onto your shapes to make them sparkle and shine even more! Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Hazelnut Nutella Macaroon Cookie Recipe

hazelnut_nutella_macaroons

Enjoy a tasty twist on this classic French cookie!  Hazelnut Nutella Macaroons

Ingredients:
2/3 cup hazelnut meal*
1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon instant espresso powder (optional)
½ teaspoon salt
2 egg whites, room temperature
¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 cup granulated sugar

*Hazelnut meal is sometimes called hazelnut flour. You can use almond meal in it’s place, or grind toasted hazelnuts to make your own.

Filling:
1/2 cup Nutella
1 cup powdered sugar, optional

Directions:
Separate your eggs and allow them to come to room temperature while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix hazelnut meal, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, espresso powder, and salt until combined.
Sift into a medium bowl.

When the egg whites are room temperature, add the cream of tartar. Beat on medium speed until frothy. Gradually add sugar, beat until stiff, glossy peaks form.

Add half of the dry ingredients and fold with a rubber scraper, then repeat with the other half of the dry ingredients, being careful not to over-fold and deflate the whites.

Place the batter in a large piping bag fitted with a large round tip (Wilton #806 is a good size), and pipe circles onto lined baking sheets. Tap each baking sheet against the counter once to remove any air bubbles. Let sit 15-30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
Bake the macaroons for 15-16 minutes, rotating the pans from front to back and top to bottom halfway through baking time. The macaroons are done when they just begin to separate from the parchment. Cool completely on a wire rack.

You can use straight Nutella for the filling, or mix the Nutella with powdered sugar for a thicker paste. Use an offset spatula or an icing bag to top one macaroon, and then find a similarly sized macaroon to complete the sandwich. Repeat with all.
